Observations from couples who've planned successful Tenerife weddings — and from a few who learned the hard way.

Use the Climate Strategically

Tenerife's year-round climate is the island's competitive advantage; design the wedding around it rather than ignoring it. Winter weddings (December-March) are genuinely warm enough for outdoor everything, and accommodation is 30-40% cheaper. Late October and early November are an underrated sweet spot — warm sea, low rainfall, post-school-holiday calm, and supplier rates are lower than peak summer. If your guests are largely from Northern Europe, picking November means many of them will be flying somewhere warm anyway, and Tenerife is the easy choice.

Choose Coast Before Venue

The south coast and north coast feel like different islands. The south is sunny, dry, resort-style, and convenient — almost everyone's safe choice. The north is dramatic, green, and authentically Canarian, but rain is more common and transfers are longer. Don't shortlist venues across both coasts; pick the coast first based on your priorities (predictable sun vs. dramatic character) and shortlist within that.

Plan for the Wind

The Canary trade winds are a constant factor on the south coast. Outdoor ceremonies need wind-resistant floral installations (not freestanding arches with delicate hanging blooms), and reception tents need to be properly anchored. Talk to your planner specifically about wind exposure at the venue you're considering — it varies dramatically across just a few kilometers of coast.

Embrace the Multi-Island Option

La Gomera is 50 minutes by ferry and feels like a different world: forested, slow-paced, dotted with stone-village hotels. A small group post-wedding overnight on La Gomera turns a 3-day wedding into a 5-day experience that guests will talk about for years. The neighboring island of La Palma offers similar atmosphere with stargazing as the headline attraction (it has the world's clearest night skies for amateur astronomy).

Hire Local for Most Categories

The Tenerife supplier scene is professionally tuned to international weddings. Local florists, photographers, planners, hair-and-makeup artists, and DJs have decades of experience working with British and German clients. Importing from mainland Spain or your home country adds cost and logistics without typically improving quality. The exceptions: very specific bands, niche videography styles, or stationery designers you've worked with before.
